About us

Kitty Lauman

Kitty Lauman started her career as a horse trainer at the tender age of nine, under the guidance of her grandfather, John Sharp. She later became a top Pee Wee and High School Rodeo contestant, competing in barrel racing and cutting, among other events. Despite her mother's assertion that "horse training isn't a real job," Kitty managed to make a living as a trainer after high school (and her mom now helps out with the business!) Kitty won the title of Miss Rodeo Oregon in 1994, and since then, has continued to expand her horse training knowledge and experience. As part of the Lauman Training program, she starts colts for Darren Stancik of Stancik Quarter Horses,a noteworthy barn that was home to champion AQHA reiners Jac Daniels Neat and Chocolate Chic O'lena.

Rick Lauman

Rick Lauman is a native Oregonian who, in his more reckless years, rode broncs and bulls on the Northwest Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit. Meeting Kitty, however, was enough of a thrill that he decided he no longer needed to ride roughstock to fulfill his desire for life on the edge. Rick's specialty is starting colts; he's the one who guides the young horses through their first rides in the round pen and out on the trails. Rick has a particular interest in Mounted Action  Shooting events, and has won several competitions. He's also a saddlemaker, and several of his saddle projects are part of the working tack in the barn.

Tanner Wyatt Lauman

Trail Boss

Tanner (four years old) is pictured riding Pauite (pictured on the cover of "From Wild To Willing").  Tanner loves to ride, enjoys loping his horse and spends his days picking flowers for his mother and pretending to be the General of the place.  He is a very respectable young gentleman who works hard to steal a place into the hearts of everyone he meets.

Josie Lee Lauman

Josie is a year old and helps keep everybody around on their toes.  She is always ready with a smile and inspires devotion from everyone she meets, especially that of her brother who has appointed himself her designated protector.  Trod carefully around this young gal cause she's already tugging at the heart strings of boys everywhere!
