Spring 2008

I hesitate to claim that spring might finally have arrived but since downpours interspaced with sunshine are starting to be more common, there is hope.  Regardless spring has brought us a ton of new and exciting events here at Lauman Training.

The Lone Pine Rangers held their annual Cabin Fever Shoot in which Rick and Kitty took both Overall titles  (Kitty being the Overall Shoot Winner).  We are starting to get quite a few horses into training for mounted action shooting and Rick is sure enjoying the perfect excuse to do more shooting.

Kitty was featured in a splendid article that came out in the June Edition of the Western Shooting Horse magazine. (www.WSHmag.com) The articles talks about Kitty’s work with mustangs and the horses she uses for shooting, it includes several beautiful photos of the Kitty and the mustangs we use for shooting.

Memorial Day Weekend brought our first campout of the year.  We headed into the Ochocos for four days and really enjoyed all the rain and mud that this year brought.  It is always fun to take the horses in training into some new country to see how they handle and the change of pace is relaxing.

We have had a few new people come and stay for a few months to help and learn more about training horses and it seems like there will be a continuous stream of young kids wanting to help out here this summer.

Tanner and Josie are starting to really enjoy the outdoors with their parents.  We adopted an orphaned Lamb named Concho (who looks so much like a goat that we've given up calling him a lamb).  The kids are enjoying bottle feeding him and the rest of us enjoy the comic relief he provides.  Tanner especially enjoys spending time on horseback and even has his own mount that he regularly rides around the ranch.  Tanners new mount is a pony that we recently acquired for him, Buckshot is a wonderful little pony that has a heart of gold.  Josie is getting to be quite the talker and loves to ride, she gets quite upset when dismounting.

Well the world is crazy and we’ve got just the place to be in the mist of it all.  We’ll keep you updated as we move into summer.

 Have a Great One!

In The Press

Western Horseman October Issue Review of From Wild to Willing!

This is a great review which was very well done. The review gives a great overview of "From Wild to Willing" You can find the review on pg 171-172 of the Western Horseman's October 2005 Issue.

Horse Illustrated July Issue Review of "From Wild to Willing"

This review can be found on pg 34 of the July Issue of Horse Illustrated.  This review did a good job of illustrating the methods used in the video.

The Mustang Corral Articles

This a small collection of the best articles that were written about the High Desert Museum's exhibit "The Mustang Corral." Lauman Training trains the mustangs used in the exhibit and conducts monthly demonstrations during the summer months.
